Pediatric CPR & First Aid

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association, and any fees charged for such a course do not represent income to the Association.

The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid course is designed to meet the regulatory and credentialed training requirements for child care workers in all 50 states.  This course teaches basic first aid, CPR, and AED skills for children such as:
• What to do when a child or infant has a breathing problem
• Giving compressions and breaths to an infant or child
• Stopping bleeding that can be seen

Intended Audience

• Child care workers 
• Teachers
• Foster care workers
• Camp counselors 
• Youth group leaders
• Coaches 
• Others responsible for children

Course Content

• First aid basics
• Medical emergencies
• Injury emergencies 
• Environmental emergencies
• Optional pediatric first aid modules are:
  - Pediatric first aid topics (eye injuries; fever; suspected abuse; and snake, spider, scorpion, tick and 
    marine animal bites and stings)
  - CPR and AED use
  - Asthma care training for child care providers

Course Features

• Designed to meet the training requirements for child care workers in all 50 states
• Student CD includes additional first aid, CPR and AED content for students to reference 
• Classroom format is ideal for learners who prefer group interaction and feedback from an instructor

Certification

American Heart Association Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid Course Completion Card valid for two years.

During the course, an AHA Instructor conducts video-based lessons and works with students to complete their first aid, CPR and AED skills practice, and CPR and AED skills testing.
